It’s the late August bank holiday weekend and the summer party season is coming to an end. It can happen at any moment and it causes immediate panic and despair. I’m not talking about pressing the cue button on the wrong deck, I’m talking about a pint of beer accidently spilled over your decks, mixer or controller. What do you do? Immediately switch it off, wipe it down and turn it upside down overnight to let any liquid that may have got inside seep out. The next day you switch it on and it’s a miracle, it works!
But for how long? It should go without saying that the above steps must be taken immediately as liquid and electricity do not mix, and you should allow plenty of time to allow the liquid to completely dry out. But just because you equipment is working, it doesn’t mean it is free from developing serious issues further down the line. Water is best as it doesn’t leave behind too much damage providing it is dried out quickly. But sticky and sugar containing liquids can play havoc inside your electronics. As time goes on, you will notice that faders, LEDs and buttons become sticky, then start to fail or have intermittent issues but that is only the start.
Soon that liquid will start to corrode and eat away at the circuits inside which can lead to total power failure and unrepairable circuit boards which can no longer be fixed and must be replaced in order to bring the equipment back into working order, which is often much more expensive than repairing the circuit board (if it is even available anymore). The advice here therefore, is to have it cleaned up professionally at the earliest opportunity. We can safely disassemble, clean and rebuild your equipment much cheaper (using our ultrasonic cleaners where necessary) than if we need to start tracing faults, replacing components or worse, circuit boards. Just look at the damage above that some liquids can cause if left over time.
